BASE : Play With a Purpose

There are thousands of cool things to do, ideas to think about, and people to meet... but who's gonna connect the dots? Who can make it happen? BASE is that connection. It's about fun – mixed with purpose and passion. It's a community of interesting and diverse people who want to get "it" done - whatever "it" is.

BASE: What are you up to tomorrow night?

Hey, BASE!

What are your plans tomorrow night?

Heading home to watch “Private Practice” or “Deal or No Deal?” Maybe checking out the first game of the World Series?

Your friends at Hancher and BASE have another idea – join us for a Very Open Rehearsal with the Chiara (think key-ARE-ah) String Quartet!

This exclusive BASE event will provide you an inside look into what the artists do to prepare for a live performance. You can ask questions, or just sit back and enjoy the music as you watch them rehearse.

What: A Very Open Rehearsal with the Chiara (key-ARE-ah) String Quartet

Who: BASE and Access Iowa (your friendly corridor young professionals group). This is just for us!

When: Wednesday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m. Reception with free food and drink at 6:00.

Where: Chait Galleries, 218 Washington Street, Iowa City

Why: Because it's fun, it's free, it's innovative and you'll get to meet a string quartet that plays Prince covers (seriously, check it out at myspace.com/chiarastringquartet).

If you want to come: Just show up! It's free! A heads up to getonbase@iowacityarea.com is much appreciated, but not required.

Join the fun and the music. And, you can still make it home in time to see the Phillies take on Tampa Bay!

Hey BASE!

Hancher Auditorium is offering BASE an exclusive opportunity to get behind the scenes with one of the hippest acts in the string quartet game (yes, classical music is hip again, didn't you know?).

Who: BASE and Access Iowa (your friendly corridor young professionals group). This is just for us!

When: Next Wednesday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m. Reception with free food and drink at 6:00.

Where: Chait Galleries, 218 Washington Street, Iowa City

What's "A Very Open Rehearsal?": It's an inside look into what the artists do to prepare for a live performance. You can ask questions, or just sit back and enjoy the music as you watch them rehearse. Iowa's own famed jazz pianist, Dan Knight, will be there to keep the conversation going.

See you there!

The Sky's the Limit!

Hi! I’m Jenna and I’m fairly new to BASE, although I’ve only been able to make it to a few events.

Another group that I’m in is having their own event that I thought would be great to invite everyone in BASE. You can contact me about tickets jenna.kerdus@jostens.com or get them the night of the performance!

On Saturday, October 25th, join the Gutsy Women’s Tour group as the prepare to go on the trip of a lifetime to anywhere, after all, The Sky’s the Limit! This show features the Metro Mix Chorus, a nation-wide competition Sweet Adeline group, strutting their stuff through songs from the Big Band Era all the way up to Barry Manilow and the Pointer Sisters. Our special guests will be the Coe College singing troupe, Crimson and Gold.

Tickets are just $15 for adults ahead of time or $18 at the door. The show will be taking place at the City High Auditorium starting at 7:00 pm. There is one show only! Any proceeds will go towards helping the chorus go to the International Harmony Classic in Nashville, Tennessee for 2009!

Hope you see you there,
Jenna

Taste some wine...for a cause!

Hi, BASErs!

Sorry I missed last night. I've been remiss in not getting this posted sooner, but I want to invite you all to a fun event for a service group LaShelle and I are a part of.

It's a wine tasting event for HOBY (Hugh O'Brien Youth leadership). The group hosts a leadership seminar for high school sophomores every spring. Long story short, it's a good service group run by volunteers that's deserving of a little donation... To the fun part:

The Wine Tasting will be on Saturday, October 18 at the Wallace Winery in West Branch from 7-9 PM. The cost is $20. Please join a fun group of world-shakers for a nice Saturday evening sampling one of Iowa's local wineries!

Want more info or to get tickets? Go to the Facebook event page "Iowa HOBY FUNdraiser at Wallace Winery" (www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=25581997947) or contact me at 400-2821 or flahertybp@gmail.com.

Thanks!
